It is quite fascinating … the less they have the more there is to play with. I saw it again when we spend some time in a cabin in the mountains a while ago.

My boys hardly took any toys with them, except for the Lego of course. I mean when we embarked on our travels with only four suitcases the Lego almost took up half of my eldest's suitcase. It never stays behind. And I have to give the Lego some credit, it provided hours of entertainment wherever we went. So we will most probably pack it again.

But when we let the boys loose in those wide open spaces between the mountains … forgotten was the Lego. There were sticks that were waiting to become a mighty warrior’s sword, rocks that could turn into bombs destroying empires, ropes that would make one awesome swing, and bikes to ride through the valleys of fynbos. They couldn't even stop to grab a bite to eat. And at home, they are always hungry!!!

So this just again deepened my belief that we don’t need that much. That less is more. That adventure begins when we start to let go of stuff and use our imagination.

But being surrounded by so much stuff all of the time suffocates the imagination. When there is less around me I can think up wondrous stories to tell my boys, I can paint a picture with the finest detail, I can get lost in a book, and I have time to listen to my husband’s heart.

Is there anything more precious than that? I am convinced that there is not. And that is why we are on our way to the mountains again. To gather new memories instead of stuff.

Let go of the stuff. Just throw it out. Put on your walking shoes and take a stroll outside. Nothing else, and certainly not your stuff, will come close to the peace of feeling the wind against your cheeks and the sun burning down on your face. Be present.

Write {Like) if you want to join me and let go of more stuff and share with your friends and family.
