Four days to go and then everything must fit into those four suitcases again. We are off to our next destination. Strange how instead of it being stressful to pack again it has become one of my favorite times … when we have to let some stuff go.
Nothing as liberating as a good old garbage run! I became so used (even kind of addicted) to the feeling of accomplishment and freedom I experience every time we make our stuff less so that we can live more.
The first time it was not so easy, but it surely became easier with practice … and now it is something I look forward to!
A garbage run is nothing more than taking a walk through your house and throwing everything in the bag that can be classified as garbage or does not add any value to your life any longer.
This time we ended up with three full garbage bags!!! The boys even helped. Who could find the most stuff to throw in the bags? Nothing like a bit of competition to get them going.
For us, it was stuff like empty boxes of items we bought, broken toys, scrap paper, kids’ art that is not worth the keep, dried up pens, markers, paint and glue, old magazines, a pair of broken shoes, a very badly stained shirt, empty glass coffee containers I held on to, a broken brush, etc.
For you it can be something completely different that fills your bags. But just give it a try!!! You are literally making space for new things in your life … for more life lived with less stuff.
