I call myself a winter person. I don’t mind the cold. The layers of clothing. Being inside for a while. The fire burning. There is a different kind of closeness I experience with my loved ones during this season. But also a closeness with myself.

Each season in our lives affects us differently. Each season has its own purpose.

And even on your decluttering journey, you will experience different seasons. Seasons change and if you change with the season you will reap the reward because no season is in vain.

Winter

Your home most probably does not look the way you want it to look. Instead of getting depressed, use this time to reflect, plan, and learn.

Create a mental picture of what you want your home to look like. Color it in with as much detail as possible. Pull up a plan of how you can achieve this mental picture. Learn everything about decluttering techniques, how to start, how to beat the overwhelm, and storage solutions. Read books. This is a time to prepare yourself. And if you get tired just remember that spring is around the corner. You are getting ready for it.

Spring
With Spring comes the new opportunity to change what you want to change. To use all the knowledge you have gathered during the winter. Act. Work hard. Give it your best. That is also why you should use the time you have during winter to rest.

Summer
In Summer all your hard work of spring starts to pay off. You start seeing changes in your home. But this is not the time to relax yet. It is important to stay focused on your goal of a decluttered home … on that mental picture that you have created. You are almost there.

Fall
This is the moment of truth. You will either celebrate or have excuses. You will either have a decluttered home or not. The law of cause and effect is universal. It applies to every living being alike and in fall you see it with your eyes.

It is very important to celebrate if you have success. But if you did not achieve what you were hoping for, take responsibility for your results. Reflect on what you can do differently during the next winter, spring and summer … until fall comes around again.

Let me know what your favorite season is ...
